It's Time to WALK!

April 15, 2015

We are just a few days away from our signature event, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes! If you haven’t registered yet, you have just a few days left to do so — online registration will close on Friday at 9 a.m.  But don’t worry — you can always register in person at St. Clark Park on Saturday morning!

For those who use social media, we invite you to use the hashtag #WalkBlackburn for your posts about pictures about the Walk. Use it on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram (or anywhere else hashtags can be used!), so we can all see and share moments from the day!

If this is your first time coming to Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, be prepared for a great time!  Registration starts at 9 a.m. — come early and get your red shoes, your t-shirt and some coffee + breakfast treats!  A DJ will be keeping things hopping as you go from tent to tent to sign the pledge, “Ten Things Men Can Do to End Gender Violence," learn about domestic and sexual violence, and make signs to help raise awareness about these issues.  For fathers and grandfathers, we’ll space set aside for you to get important information about your role for your sons and grandsons.  SkySight Photography will be there to take team and individual pictures in front of our “step and repeat” — and the photos will available on our Facebook page after the walk.  You can check out the art made by local students on the fences surrounding the park, and be inspired by how our Westmoreland County community has come together for such a great cause!

Before we kick off the walk, a group of men from across Westmoreland County will each read a pledge point from the pledge, “Ten Things Men Can Do to End Gender Violence," and will commit to actions in their own lives that support that pledge point.  You’ll also hear from a member of our Board of Directors about the importance of this event — and how incredibly thankful we are to have such amazing support from our community!

And with that…the walk will begin at 10 a.m.!  After we have walked a mile along Maple Avenue in downtown Greensburg (with help from the Greensburg police), we will reconvene at St. Clair Park.  You can help yourself to some post-walk treats, chat with fellow walkers, and learn more about our work and our mission.

Remember:  Walk A Mile in Her Shoes 2015 will take place on Saturday, April 18, at St. Clair Park in Greensburg.  Registration starts at 9 a.m., and the walk itself will kick off at 10 a.m.

We will see you there!
