Take The Purple Purse Challenge!

At Blackburn Center, we are always looking for innovative ways to raise awareness and educate the community about domestic and sexual violence. That’s why we jumped at the opportunity to participate in the Purple Purse Challenge this October — which also happens to be National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This is the first time Blackburn Center has competed in the Challenge, which raised nearly $3.1 million in 2015 for 161 domestic violence organizations throughout the United States.

The Purple Purse Challenge is a friendly fundraising “competition” among non-profit organizations sponsored by the Allstate Foundation. For Blackburn Center, this means that we have the chance to receive a grant of up to $100,000, simply by raising money to support our mission. The symbol of this challenge — a purple purse — is significant in two ways. Many women in violent relationships struggle to leave their abuser because they are financially unable to do so. The purple purse represents both the color of domestic violence awareness and financial security. By donating to Blackburn Center through the Purple Purse Challenge, you can help us continue to provide services to victims of domestic violence — and potentially help women right here in Westmoreland County escape their abusers. One hundred percent of proceeds go toward nonprofits that provide life-changing financial empowerment services to help domestic violence survivors build safer lives for themselves and their families.

All online donations to Blackburn Center of $250 or more will be entered into a drawing for a limited edition purple purse! Allstate Foundation Purple Purse and Kerry Washington have partnered with designer Dee Ocleppo to create an exclusive “Purple Purse” handbag collection for this Challenge. Only online donations of $250 or more made between September 28 and October 4, 2016 on our Challenge website will qualify for the purse drawing. Learn more about the making of the purple purse:
