Tomorrow, as we gather with loved ones to celebrate Thanksgiving, we’re reminded that this holiday is about more than turkey and pie — it’s a moment to pause, reflect, and express heartfelt gratitude.

At Blackburn Center, we envision a world free from domestic and sexual violence, as well as other forms of violence. In pursuit of this vision, we provide comprehensive victim services across Westmoreland County through direct support, community outreach, education and training. Year-round, we are here to meet critical needs of our community, offering resources and support that foster healing, hope, and resilience. Blackburn Center’s mission is to advocate for the rights of all individuals to live free from domestic and sexual violence and other forms of violence by eliminating the root causes of this violence, and providing for the well-being and safety of survivors/victims. Our work is vital and challenging, but this work isn’t done alone.
Our impact is only possible because of the remarkable people who stand beside us. The commitment and dedication of our supporters, partners, and community members fuel our mission every day. Together, we’re building a safer, stronger, and more resilient community, and we are deeply grateful for all who make it possible.
To our staff: Your commitment is unwavering. From providing counseling and therapy, supporting survivors/victims in medical or legal systems, running our emergency shelter, preparing trainings, educating students, fundraising, or managing daily operations — your passion drives everything that we do. You bring hope, strength, and healing to our community. Thank you for your resilience, dedication, and the difference you make.
To our volunteers: You are the heart of our organization. Whether answering the 24-hour hotline to staffing events, distributing educational materials, assisting in the emergency shelter, or serving on committees — your willingness to show up makes a profound difference. Blackburn Center was founded by volunteers, and decades later, your service continues to expand our reach and offers valuable support. Thank you for your generosity of time and spirit.
To our Board of Directors: You lead with courage, vision, and determination. Your strategic guidance and steadfast support allow us to move forward with purpose and innovation. Thank you for sharing your expertise and for championing our mission.
To our donors: You make our work possible. Whether through financial contributions, purchasing shelter items, providing in-kind support for events such as Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, or fulfilling our Amazon wish list, your generosity sustains critical services for survivors and victims. In a year that has been particularly challenging from a funding perspective, we are incredibly grateful for your continued support. Thank you for helping create community rooted in safety, dignity, and hope.
We could not do this work without you. Your support touches countless lives — today, tomorrow, and every day.
On Thanksgiving and always, thank you.
