Are you ready to walk? 10 years after our first Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event, we are proud to announce our 10th Annual Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault, and Gender Violence. That’s right: it’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes time! The 2020 Walk will take place on Saturday, April 18 at St. Clair Park in Greensburg.
This year, we have updated our logo to more fully reflect the range of people who may experience domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and other types of gender-based violence. We know that this type of violence does not discriminate: it can affect anyone, regardless of sex, race, socioeconomic status, gender identity, sexual orientation, or religion. While the name of the Walk remains the same, our logo aims to be more inclusive of all who have experienced violence in our community.
Each year, we set out to top the previous year’s attendance record. In 2019, over 1,100 walkers joined us at St. Clair Park. In 2020, we are hoping to hit 1,500 participants. Can you help us reach that goal for our 10th anniversary?
Over the years, a number of teams have participated, with some bringing over 100 team members to help us raise awareness. We recognize the team with the most members as well as the team that raised the most money. In 2020, we have a new option for teams and individuals: fundraising! When you register, you can set fundraising goals for yourself or for a team as a whole. While the cost to participate is just $5 per person, this option gives you the ability to set up a fundraising page and ask for donations to Blackburn Center. Your personal site will allow you to track progress, solicit donations from friends and family members, and tell others about what you are doing (and why it is important to you).
As always, we will have lots to do, see, and learn at the Walk. Our DJ will spin music as participants visit education tables around the park. There will be coffee, donuts and more for everyone to enjoy. The Walk is a family-friendly event, and everyone is welcome — including your (well-behaved) pet! We always look forward to seeing the unique ways that people dress their dogs and other animals for the event — it has become a Walk a Mile in Her Shoes tradition!
Our Walk is a success because of YOU. Help us make this year the biggest and best ever. Ask family, friends and coworkers to join you, consider putting together a team, and share information about the Walk on your social media and elsewhere.
